Grégoire Desforges, third generation at the helm of Baglio di Pianetto, takes up the baton of a project that summarises its future in high-altitude wine. On the Palermo hills, in Contrada Pianetto - between Piana degli Albanesi and Santa Cristina Gela - the dream of the founders Florence and Paolo Marzotto continues, who 26 years ago were pioneers in investing in a surprising area.
Solid corporate values and a wine capable of translating the terroir in all its facets meet a renewed vision, focused on the valorisation of a territory that embodies unique geological and cultural specificities. With altitudes reaching 900 metres, different exposures and a microclimate between the sea and mountains, the vocation of the Baglio di Pianetto vines is combined today with ever-increasing attention to the sustainability of production, as well as to the needs of new wine lovers and to continuous search for the distinctiveness of the great Sicilian wines.
«The new Baglio di Pianetto wants to be a sincere interpreter of Contrada Pianetto and of the community that recognizes itself in this unique territory, still little explored, from a cultural and wine-growing point of view». This is the manifesto of the new Baglio di Pianetto explained by Grégoire Desforges, whose approach is based on the value (rather than the volume) of production, responding to the values of responsibility, ethics and integrity that have always guided the company.
Sharing and realizing the contemporary vision of Baglio di Pianetto is the competence and sensitivity of Graziana Grassini - one of the first Italian female winemakers. «The oenological objective we set ourselves for Baglio di Pianetto is the valorisation of the area and its unusual altitude, an essential value of an unprecedented and authentic Sicily. In particular, with the In Purezza line, the expression of the vine of each mono varietal will be enhanced, while the ViaFrancia line will be a translation of the complexity of the territory" comments the winemaker.
The choice of Dante Bonacina as CEO of Baglio di Pianetto derives from the desire to invest in people. «When we talk about mountain viticulture in Sicily, many think exclusively of Etna; but here in Santa Cristina Gela, 20 minutes from Palermo and with altitudes of up to 900 metres, Paolo Marzotto has discovered a unique and particularly suitable terroir. I gladly accepted the invitation of his heir, who today carries forward his project with dedication and enthusiasm.
