Sangiovese and the concept of “vocation”: five territories, five souls. Prof. Attilio Scienza VIA Advanced Seminar with Andrea Lonardi MW

Description

Drawing on both ancient mythology and the latest scientific research, Professor Attilio Scienza reflects on the true meaning of vocation as it applies to the world of wine. Thanks to climate change, globalization and the processes of viticultural and oenological innovation, the concept of vocation in relation to a winegrowing has profoundly changed over the course of history. Above all the evolution of consumer tastes has shifted our understanding of the concept of vocation.

The development of modern viticultural zonation provides the most suitable tool to apply vocation in an innovative way and to respond effectively to the challenges of the present. For example, in relation to the use of fertilizers or irrigation, or how to fight pests. Looking to the future, vocation means doing viticulture where the vine is in balance with its environment and where costly and harmful interventions are less necessary. By considering the case of Sangiovese it is possible to understand the true meaning of vocation, past, present and future.
