Giuseppe Carrus
Since 2019, he has served as national editor of Gambero Rosso’s Vini d’Italia Guide, and since 2020 he has also worked with Gambero Rosso TV as host of several wine-focused programmes.
He holds a degree in Languages and Communication from the University of Cagliari, where he wrote his thesis on the language of food and wine guides, and in 2004 he completed Gambero Rosso’s Master’s programme in food and wine journalism.
A sommelier since 2001 and a qualified wine taster trained at the BIVB in Bordeaux, he has been part of Gambero Rosso’s wine editorial team since 2006.
He currently teaches sensory analysis courses throughout Italy, works as a consultant for a range of private organisations, and has led seminars, tastings and workshops for public institutions.
Roberto Potentini
An oenologist since 1980, he is a member of the Accademia della Vite e del Vino and the Accademia dei Georgofili, and a lecturer in oenology at the University of Camerino. He is the author of the most comprehensive technical and descriptive text on Verdicchio di Matelica.
Since 1988, he has been head of production at Cantine Belisario and serves as an oenological consultant to wineries in the Marche and Tuscany.

Distinctive local identity and specificity define Matelica, a niche appellation recognised among the country’s great white wines. The focus is on Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva DOCG and Verdicchio di Matelica DOC, led by Giuseppe Carrus and Roberto Potentini, in a vertical tasting (from 2008 to 2024) featuring 8 wineries.
Organised by the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini and the Matelica Committee, the participating wineries are: La Monacesca, Tenuta Colpaola, Gagliardi, Borgo Paglianetto, Tenuta Piano di Rustano, Provima, Bisci, Cantine Belisario.
