He holds a degree in Languages and Communication from the University of Cagliari, where he wrote his thesis on the language of food and wine guides, and in 2004 he completed Gambero Rosso’s Master’s programme in food and wine journalism.
A sommelier since 2001 and a qualified wine taster trained at the BIVB in Bordeaux, he has been part of Gambero Rosso’s wine editorial team since 2006.

President of the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini (IMT), Michele Bernetti was confirmed for a second term in May 2025. The institute represents around 500 members and safeguards 16 appellations across the Marche region. He is also CEO of Umani Ronchi, the historic winery owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family and founded in 1957, renowned for producing benchmark wines such as Verdicchio and Montepulciano.
