Daniele Cernilli, aka DoctorWine, is an internationally renowned wine critic and editor-in-chief of the web magazine DoctorWine and the Essential Guide to Italian Wines. A journalist and taster with over forty years of experience, he was a co-founder of Gambero Rosso and editor of the Vini d’Italia guide for 24 editions, as well as editor of GR Magazine and a presenter on GR Channel, in addition to contributing to numerous publications.

He is currently also editor-in-chief of L’Assaggiatore, the magazine of ONAV – the National Organization of Wine Tasters, and serves as a lecturer and instructor in professional wine tasting courses.

Author of several books on wine — In Search of the Black Rooster, co-written with Paolo De Cristofaro (Giunti, 2024); The Stories (and Advice) of Doctor Wine (Einaudi, 2014); Grape Varieties of the World, co-written with Dario Cappelloni (La Conchiglia, 2012); Memoirs of a Wine Taster (Einaudi, 2006) — since 2014 he has produced the Essential Guide to Italian Wines in collaboration with a selected team of tasters and journalists, first with Mondadori and later with MD Communication.

An official taster at the Decanter World Wine Awards (from 2012 to 2020), a member of the Wine Writers’ Hall of Fame in New York (2015), and previously listed by Decanter among the 50 most influential people in the world of wine, since 2019 he has also served as chairman of 5Stars – The Book by Vinitaly International.
